Exciting News

I have all but abandoned this blog and, for that, I am sorry. I am, however, going to get back to it because... wait for it, wait for it... I'm moving to LA for six months starting in June and I'm going to share every dirty detail with you!

You see, Mark and my good friend Patty are executive producers of a new television show that will be taping in New York from June to November. Instead of him getting his own apartment here, we thought it would be more fun to trade places. It's going to be like The Holiday and I get to be Kate Winslet. I'M GOING TO HAVE A CAR AND EVERYTHING. (Watch. Out.)

I'm looking forward to a change of scenery and have other friends out there besides him. Also, the movie is being released at the end of September, so it will be fun to be out there for that.

So anyway, that's what I've been up to—planning all this and getting ready for my (temporary) move. Stay tuned!

Size Matters Showcase Closes Miami Music Week's Beatport Beach

Size Records bash featured Steve Angello, Max Vangeli and AN21.

"We're gonna shut this beach down!" Steve Angello told MTV News at Sunday's Beatport Beach just before he took the stage at his Size Matters Showcase — and, in case you didn't know, when Angello says he's planning on doing something, he usually does just that. For the 5,000 fans who were lucky enough to get into the Miami Music Week soiree, they were in for a memorable night.

Our crew arrived just as Max Vangeli and AN21 ended their massive set and the 2011 Beatport Music Awards were presented, with Deadmau5, Wolfgang Gartner, Swedish House Mafia and Martin Solveig taking home awards.

Harry "Choo Choo" Romero was next up on the massive stage and kept the energy high, dropping his prog-house mega-thumper with Alexander Technique and Junior Sanchez, "Where You Are (featuring Shawnee Taylor)" as well as a massive remix of Swedish House Mafia's "Leave the World Behind."

Then came the one and only Junior Sanchez, who tore it up with a remix of Sebastian Ingrosso's "Kidsos," followed by an amazing and clever mash-up of Armand Van Helden's "I Want Your Soul" with "Take Over Control" by Afrojack, who joined Sanchez in the booth for the jam. All of these massive sets had the crowd ready to explode as Size Records founder and Swedish House Mafia third Steve Angello took the helm.

As Angello took the stage, loading up the array of four CDJs and cuing his tracks, he took the mic and made it clear to the fans that he was on a mission to rock their world: "Miami, are we ready? Welcome to Size Matters and Beatport! Miami, make some f---ing noise!"

With that, the crowd went insane as he kicked off with some new material that led into "Miami to Ibiza," followed by a mash-up of Justice's "We Are Your Friends (Acapella)" with Alesso's "Nillionaire," which on its own turned out to be one of Miami's most-buzzed-about tracks.

Mixing in Calvin Harris' "Awooga," which also was heard all around town during the week, as well as the Duck Sauce (A-Trak and Armand Van Helden) track "Barbra Streisand," Angello had the tanned and tone crowd bumping from the start. Followed by his remix of Pendulum's "The Island" with Vangeli and AN21, a chain of yet-to-be-identified tracks, including a bass-heavy, grimy-guitar-infused rock anthem, took the party to another level — so much so that Miami Beach code enforcement tried to shut the party down.

Knocking out other big tracks such as Supermode's "Tell Me Why" and the latest SHM single "Save the World," Angello moved along in his set, dropping bomb after bomb. In the middle of playing out another Alesso track,"Dynamite," the music suddenly stopped — even if only for a minute, but some in the crowd could sense something was up.

"I'm definitely not going to stop! We're gonna go, and we're gonna go, and we are going to f----ing go!" he pledged to his fans. "Ladies and gentlemen, make some noise!" he yelled as he faded back into "Dynamite" — yet this time, with the volume turned considerably down and just minutes later, fully faded to silent.

As the fans began chanting the hook from the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army" (as they did the night before at Masquerade Motel) Angello picked up the mic to share the news: "Thank you guys so much! Unfortunately, we got shut down. Size Matters loves you; Steve Angello loves you; Swedish House Mafia loves you!"

End of the story? Not quite. This is Steve Angello, remember? The sea of fans and the energy that he and the whole Size gang injected into their fans all day long weren't going anywhere. The crowd remained, the chants continued, and suddenly, everyone in the booth — AN21, Max, Junior, Alex Techniques, Sunnery James and Ryan Marciano, even the Beatport staff — joined Angello onstage. No one was going anywhere.

And after five minutes of speaker silence and the crowd chanting "We want more!" one of the tech crew members ran onto the stage, signaling to Angello the "OK" for just one more track. With that, Angello raised a finger high in the air and began to cue up the decks, and the crowd started to roar.

Junior Sanchez handed Angello a pair of air horns, and he let them rip. Sunnery James motioned for Angello to go to the front of the stage and celebrate; he'd press play for him. And as the intro to "Show Me Love" belted out of the massive sound system again at full blast, the crowd went nuts as it faded into "KNAS." Confetti cannons exploded, bottles of tequila were popped, and the crowd was egged on by Angello waving his arms. For the Size Records gang, Beatport and their fans, it was a perfect end to one of the most memorable weeks in dance music history.

Katie Holmes Explains Suri's "Boy Part" Candy to Ellen

Katie Holmes Explains Suri's "Boy Part" Candy to Ellen

Suri Cruise certainly has gotten her share of reproach for everything from her high-heeled shoes to her continued use of a pacifier, but now it's her candy choice that's raising eyebrows.

Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise's almost-5-year-old daughter was recently photographed carrying a box of "Penis Gummies," chewy candies shaped like that very specific part of the male anatomy.

Now, Holmes is explaining that her little girl doesn't share her taste for treats with members of a bachelorette party.

During a Thursday chat with Ellen DeGeneres on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Holmes revealed what really happened. "Recently, I took [Suri] to get ice cream in New York at this place called Serendipity that we go to all the time. It's for kids. The clientele is children," she told Ellen. "We go in and we are waiting for a table and she grabs some gummies that are boy part gummies. I was horrified."

To clarify to the audience, Holmes went on to say, "P-e-n-i-s gummies. I said, oh wow those aren't Swedish Fish... They are called p-e-n-i-s gummies and they look like it."

Apparently, Holmes was not ready to explain to the tot exactly what she had in her hands. "She was holding the box and I was like, 'OK, wow, we don't need that right now.'" said Holmes. "Because I thought if I said 'Put that back,' and then she's going to say, 'What is this?' And I really didn't want to have that conversation."

But Holmes, who stars as Jackie Kennedy in the upcoming ReelzChannel miniseries The Kennedys, was perplexed over why the shop even had the naughty sweets for sale. "I was like, why are selling these here? This is for kids. And then it was on the cover of a magazine that I'm giving her those gummies!"

"I was like, 'Oh my god, no.' We put them back."

Holmes' party did order an array of desserts at Serendipity, however, including the banana split sundae, the walnut sundae and frozen hot chocolate, according to E!

Wait, what? The banana split? The one that's made with a long banana? Oh Katie, you just can't win on this one.

Daniel Radcliffe Feels 'Very Good' About 'How To Succeed' Premiere

'Coming in and doing a two-and-a-half-hour show every evening will seem like a holiday after the last couple months,' he tells MTV News.

"How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" star Daniel Radcliffe will perform the same routine eight times a week on Broadway for the rest of the year and into 2012, but the actor will happily take that relative monotony instead of the exhaustive rehearsals he's endured for the last several months.

"It feels very good to have opened — it really does," he told MTV News following the musical's premiere Sunday. "We've had a long-ish preview period — I can't say long anymore because of 'Spider-Man' — but it feels great to be here and know the show is set now and we don't have to rehearse during the day and we get to chill out. Honestly, coming in and doing a two-and-a-half-hour show every evening will seem like a holiday after the last couple months."

The work has clearly paid off, as reviews for his performance have been largely positive. "Daniel Radcliffe is so adorable in his Broadway musical debut, you just want to pinch his cheeks," wrote the New York Post. "It's not just his youth — the 'Harry Potter' star is 21 — but the endearing amount of dedication and enthusiasm he pours into steering the [play]."

That's got to feel good for a guy who's gone on record that he has no particular talent for singing and dancing. But Radcliffe put in the work, and now he's looking forward to a bit more time to himself. Not that he's got ambitious plans for his downtime.

When MTV News asked if he'll have a chance to enjoy New York City, he said, "I will be able to now because the day-to-day rehearsal will have stopped. I'm just kind of relaxing and reading and chilling out. You know this; I don't do anything interesting!"

Will you check out Radcliffe on Broadway? Let us know in the comments!

'Sucker Punch': The Reviews Are In!

'... the ride Snyder takes you on is so vividly conceived, so deliriously bizarre and wonderful,' writes Rene Rodriguez of the Miami Herald.
By Eric Ditzian

We'll say this about Zack Snyder: The guy knows how to stir up passion in moviegoers, whether those intense feelings skew toward the aggressively negative or the bow-down-before-a-cinematic-god positive. Just take a peek at reviews for the director's adaptation of "Watchmen" in 2009.

A similar disparity in critical assessments surrounds Snyder's latest offering, the fantastical battle royale called "Sucker Punch." Some reviewers are passionately defending the film and calling out the haters for simply failing to understand what the director was trying to accomplish. Many more, however, are accusing Snyder of being the one who failed to deliver.

Will you love it? Hate it? Have you somehow never even heard of it? Check out what the critics are saying and decide for yourself.

The Story
"The story centers on Babydoll (Emily Browning), an orphan falsely accused of murdering her little sister and imprisoned inside an asylum where she is scheduled for a lobotomy. Before the procedure can be completed, Babydoll disappears into an alternate reality that exists entirely in her mind. There, she and four fellow inmates (Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung) are performers in a bordello managed by the theatrical Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and run by the cruel pimp Blue (Miami's Oscar Isaac). In order to escape — the cathouse and the mental institution — the girls must first fight off winged dragons, zombies, giant ninja robots and android aliens and collect five talismans. No, Sucker Punch doesn't make any sense. But none of that matters, because the ride Snyder takes you on is so vividly conceived, so deliriously bizarre and wonderful." — Rene Rodriguez, Miami Herald

Storytelling Shortcomings
"The film abdicates so many basic responsibilities of coherent storytelling, even coherent stupid-action-movie storytelling, director/ co-writer/ co-producer Zack Snyder must have known in preproduction that his greasy collection of near-rape fantasies and violent revenge scenarios disguised as a female-empowerment fairy tale wasn't going to satisfy anyone but himself. Well, himself, plus ardent fans of Japanese-schoolgirl manga comics. ... You will be unprepared for a film packing this much confusing crud into a little less than two hours of solitary confinement, which feels more like dog hours, i.e., 14." — Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune

The Visuals
"Loaded with all kinds of visions of the fantastic and high-octane excitement, it's a visceral feast that utilizes Snyder's signature techniques with all the velocity of a fire-breathing dragon ... But 'Sucker Punch' is not just style over substance. That's an argument the film is sure to be met with, as well, but there is just as much bubbling up under 'Sucker Punch's' CG surface than there is in its sepia-toned skies. Filled with themes of empowerment, escapism, and changing the course of the typical narrative, the film rides high in its jet-propelled mech warrior, and it has much to tell us when it's done doing loopty loops around our brain." — Jeremy Kirk, FirstShowing.net

The Influences
"You could go to see 'Sucker Punch' this weekend — a lot of people probably will, and a few may even admit as much back at the office on Monday — or you could try to make it yourself, which might be more fun, though not necessarily cheaper. Here's what you will need: a bunch of video-game platforms; DVDs of 'Shutter Island,' 'Kill Bill,' 'Burlesque' and 'Shrek'; some back issues of Maxim; a large bag of crystal meth; and around $100 million. Your imagination will take care of the rest." — A.O. Scott, The New York Times

The Final Word
"Some will see the worst sort of objectification in its Victoria's Secret-esque femme front line that also includes the scantily clad corps of Abbie Cornish, Jena Malone, Vanessa Hudgens and Jamie Chung. Others will argue that 'Sucker Punch's' sexy guerrillas represent female empowerment, to say nothing of the benefits of diet and exercise. I'd suggest the film is a wonderfully wild provocation — an imperfect, overlong, intemperate and utterly absorbing romp through the id that I wouldn't have missed for the world." — Betsy Sharkey, Los Angeles Times
